Kayako Nakashima

 

Born in Kyoto,Japan(1990), lives and works in Akita.

Kayako Nakashima makes installation works that interrogate the distances and relationships between people, taking as her motifs walls, borders and other barriers. In an era when we can connect with others easily without actually meeting, Nakashima is rethinking the nature of communication.

artist who to date has put together numerous exhibits at regional art festivals, using sites such as vacant houses and natural light. In recent years, she has expanded her activities to include exhibitions at White Cube and collaborative projects with other artists.

In 2021, she received the 15th Shiseido art egg award  from the Shiseido Gallery in Japan.

Her solo exhibitions include "Hedgehogs"at the Shiseido Gallery, Tokyo (2021); "Talk to the wall"at the gallery 16, Kyoto (2021). She has also participated in numerous international exhibitions such as Oku-Noto International Art Festival (2021), Fremantle Biennale (2019), Fault line art festival Taiwan(2019), Setouchi Triennale (2013, 2016) and Echigo-Tsumari Art Triennale (2015, 2012).
